Amber: The Crown Casino
The Crown Casino and Resort was founded by King Random, in AP 4,500 about five years after he was crowned and returned to Amber. It’s now been in operation for just over a decade. With the advent of steampunk technology in Amber, he decided it was time to build a new resort and meeting place, to increase business into Amber from the Golden Circle.

The Crown Casino and Resort complex is located on the coast to the east of the AAC airship dock. It comprises the Crown Hotel complex, which includes a full spa; the Crown Casino; and the Crown Pavilion, which includes a restaurant, a café, a bar, a larger theatre than the one in the Casino; rooms of various sizes that can be hired for meetings; and a Concierge Desk, where customers can book tickets for performances, tours and excursions.
The Crown Casino
The gaming hall is on two levels, with the gaming floor on the ground level, and a balcony which looks down in the floor, and also has a number of smaller, private gaming tables which can be hired for private parties. The atrium and theatre are double height.
The dress code is formal, which could be: late-Victorian to Edwardian, more modern dinner suits or uniforms. Clients are expected to leave their weapons at the door, and the carrying of concealed weapons is grounds for ejection and being permanently barred. The Casino has a minimum age of admission of 18 (to the restaurant, theatre and observation gallery), and a minimum gaming age of 21.
The Casino is managed by Duchess Sylvia Flaumel, daughter of Princess Florimel. Staffing is split into four shifts, with the evening and overnight shifts slightly shorter than the two day shifts. The pattern allows for a half an hour’s overlap at either end of each shift, for handover purposes.
- Morning shift – 7.00am to 2.00pm
- Afternoon shift – 1.30pm to 8.30pm

The Chapel of Chance
A ten-minute walk up the beach, and loosely a part of the Crown Casino and Resort Complex, is the new Chapel of Chance, established in early-4,500 AP by Brother Barrie, Prophet of the Great God Random, and half a dozen of his fellow travelling monks. Since they’re arrival, they’ve been joined by another eight or so novices, who have pledged themselves to serve the Great God Random. The small order lives in a smart new stone bunkhouse, about a five-minute walk from the Chapel, in the opposite direction to the Casino and Resort complex.
At least two of Brother Barrie’s fellow monks (one experienced, one novice) are on duty at the Chapel at all times.
The chapel has an excellent a cappella choir, which sometimes sings at the Crown Pavilion, or out in the Resort grounds.
